crazy that norway has banned the breeding of cavalier king charles spaniels but not, afaict, the norwegian lundehund, a dog so inbred that it has its own incurable syndrome called lundehund syndrome that only occurs in that breed and that kills fully a third of all lundehunds
tbc i think it's good to ban breeds that are inherently unethical to breed due to all of the genetic health problems they have. however. fully a THIRD of norwegian lundehunds die because of a genetic inability to absorb nutrients. and the country of norway is like yeah that's fine
@Satsuma YEAH. IT'S HORRIFYING. god there was a post going around tumblr maybe a year or so ago with a list of some dog breeds and their COI (coefficient of inbreeding) and it was all bad, obviously, but the norwegian lundehund COI was so scary. i gotta see if i can find that again
