Fedi friends, anyone into fish identification, could you help out a friend of mine identify a possible source for a fish from Super Mario Galaxy? Post is below, with the original image included!
@MrL314 its less common for fish to have a pectoral fin, a pelvic fin, *and* an anal fin so that feels somewhat significant, but not enough to narrow it down entirely
it’s also pretty chunky — my first thought was the shorthead redhorse ( Moxostoma macrolepidotum ) but it’s relatively longer and slimmer in proportions so maybe not right
@MrL314 yeah that was 100% a thinking about the fin shape/placement ID, the body doesn’t feel right at all—but I couldn’t come up with anything better so I figured it was worth tossing out? Extremely not an expert when it comes to fish tho so hopefully someone more knowledgable comes along :)

@Satsuma oh wow I can definitely see how you’d get there, looking at some pictures right now. Yeah it’s definitely a lot longer than this but I’ll let the crew know about the other info, maybe it’ll help narrow the search!
