I don't understand why it's Brussels in English when it's Brussel in Dutch and Bruxelles in French.
Did we just decide to do the world's worst portmanteau where we took the "Brussel" from Brussel and the "s" from the end of Bruxelles?? It's not like the French need it anyway, they're not even pronouncing it!

@bright_helpings I assumed we just took “Bruxelles” and then bodged it to be more pronounceable in English. but now I’m curious! *goes to see if wiktionary has an etymology*
