"I loved it as kid" does not actually seem like a good reason to rec book to someone who is a kid today

@Forestofglory yeah I feel like it can be one useful factor to consider but it's not necessarily enough to make a book worth reccing. certain books are just so much speaking to the specific time they were originally published that they won't work in the same way for today's kids

I am very careful when I think about book recs for kids to include plenty of options that were published within the last 5 years instead of only reaching for nostalgia favourites! though of course some old faves do transcend time

@Betty @Forestofglory hahaha YES that too. I don't recommend Edwardian era kids books to modern kids even though I loved them as a kid myself.....

@soph_sol @Betty @Forestofglory haha yes Little Lord Fauntleroy (or any of the other Burnett novels) is not going on my rec list for kids

@Satsuma @Betty @Forestofglory RIGHT. I got a copy of Fauntleroy from a book fair when I was a kid and genuinely adored it! but I am an outlier 😅

@soph_sol @Betty @Forestofglory my first grade teacher bribed me to actually do my classwork by loaning be books i couldnt find in the library which is how i came across it haha—i don’t remember half the titles anymore but so many of them were these super old children’s books 😆

she definitely made the right call there but that was bc she already knew i was that kind of strange child!
