@pagrus i’ve lived in a house with one since I was fairly young also (and am not asian) — i think if you already have some sort of slow/pressure cooker already enough of the features are duplicated that maybe it feels unnecessary? or if you just dont eat much rice / eat stuff like tahdeek that rice cookers cant do
but rice cookers do their primary job sooooo well and their secondary functions are also v convenient so like, I’ve only got 4 appliances total and I’d rank the rice cooker 2nd in terms of essentiality

@Satsuma@glitch.cat.family totally, I have had a rice cooker in my house my whole life. definitely gets more use than, say, a microwave
