#MLCWatchParty I watched the first 1.5 episodes on the train on Thursday night and really enjoyed them. Love an epic battle on a ship! I feel like there are more ship battles in wuxia than we usually talk about. 🤔
Mysterious Lotus Casebook, episodes 1-2
#MLCWatchParty Do I need to start CWing spoilers this early?
My cdrama bff (who is rewatching alongside the watch party, but not on Mastodon) is a Fan Duobing fan. She predicted that I would be 150% for Li Lianhua, and so far she is correct.
- secret identity, violent past
- hidden chronic illness from poison
- lost his youthful ideals and now DNGAF (let’s see if that lasts)
- criiiime
- a good smirk
- smartarse
- also very pretty
Made in a lab for me! ❤️
#MLCWatchParty I keep thinking of LLH’s caravan as the Mysterious Lotus Clubhouse. My friend says the fandom also call it the Lianborghini. 😂
#MLCWatchParty episode 3
We have a wuxia wheelchair! This one has apparently useless gears all over the back of it (not shown). Someone ought to make a study of the design, use and presentation of #wheelchairs in #wuxia series, seriously.
@villainousfriend Wait, this is episode three? I thought I watched that episode, but maybe I missed it???
@Betty it’s right at the start! Fan Duobing is talking about how he was sickly as a kid, but jiujiu tried to teach him some martial arts (and then scolded him for being bad at them, poor baby).
@villainousfriend Oh! I do remember that scene, now that you mention.
@villainousfriend (that doesn't look like a great surface for a wheelchair, but maybe he has porters?)
@Betty seems likely—his family’s pretty rich, right? I doubt that that chair’s any good for self-propelling at all, though I haven’t any practical experience to go by.
@villainousfriend I was in a chair for, like, a *week* once, so my ability to judge these things, is. Uh. greater than zero, but not a *lot* greater.
@villainousfriend but from my not-an-expert perspective, I have always thought of the wheelchair as a two-part technology, where half of it comes from the ubiquity of smooth surfaces, much like there's no utility in carts until you invent roads.
@Betty @villainousfriend there are wheelchairs which are better for non-paved terrains but 1) better is still not necessarily great depending 2) that is *extremely* not the design for that kind of thing
