@compostablespork me too! from what I've heard and read, adults rarely die from copperhead bites (and wikipedia says the venom's potency is "among the lowest of all pit vipers"), which is good, because we've got a fair number of them around and we're about 45 minutes away from the nearest hospital. I have a couple other friends here who have gotten bitten in the foot/ankle, and heard stories of hand bites due to snakes in woodpiles. but this is the first time I've ever heard of someone, here or anywhere, deliberately reaching for a copperhead. you've heard the phrase "fuck around and find out"? that. that's what happened here

@compostablespork @twistylittlepassages still amazed that they actually tried to pick one up, to be honest—the idea of voluntarily putting myself in striking range of a copperhead is such a visceral nope for me. I saw a family pick up a couple with special snake grabbers a bit ago and even that felt like alarmingly close contact as a viewer
