suddenly strikes me, 16 years after I got my first laptop, that perhaps the best file organization strategy for fandom stuff isn't by type of thing (eg: fanfic wips, character info, screenshots, research, etc) but by what fandom it is (eg: tgcf)

@soph_sol time for the great soph’s laptop reorganization challenge?

@Satsuma quite possibly!! an exciting prospect tbh. I love organizing things.

@soph_sol yeah i’ve done a few book reorg projects just for the fun of poking through all of my books haha (though i probably have slightly fewer books than i have files

@Satsuma oh yes I LOVE reorganizing my books, every time I can come up with an excuse to do it! I think my sister might let me organize her book collection at some point too and I am pumped for the opportunity

@soph_sol oooh organizing sisters books! do you have opinions on which organizational system you’d use for her stuff??’

@Satsuma I'd have to use a different approach than my own books, since personal collections tend to be very idiosyncratic, but I think I would separate it into a few broad categories (a few different genres of fiction, and the main three or so topics her nonfiction tends to be about) and then alphabetically by author within those categories. but I'll have to talk with her first to make sure that would fit her needs!

@soph_sol makes sense! currently my books are divided between two different locations, and then im using semi-different systems with both locations bc the # of books is so different…which is to say the whole things is a mess 😆 but i want to redo it soonish!

@Satsuma I hope you get the chance to soon! the current situation doesn't sound ideal!

@soph_sol yeah its very usable by me….but prob not anyone else, haha

And I like for my books to be at least semi-finable returnable by housemates
