I would love it if y'all would share with me the kindest media you know of. TV shows would be perfect, but I'll also take books/movies/podcasts/etc, anything as long as it's accessible to a blind person.
I'm not sure how to be more specific about what I'm after, just...narratives where the driving force is kindness. People striving to be good to each other, to better the world, that sort of thing. Stories with big hearts. Any genre.
Boosts appreciated.
@greengaybles I'd say almost anything Ghibli--if you've seen these movies and can tell us what fits or doesn't fit what you're looking for, that may give rise to more concrete ideas. I'd say Nausicaa of the Valley of Winds fits this to a T, with a protagonist whose defining traits are her kindness and idealism.
@ljwrites I've never watched any Ghibli although I would love to, because they're not in English except when they're dubbed and I can't see subtitles. I know that at least Howl's Moving Castle is dubbed and I've meant to get around to checking it out, but I'm always hearing about how dubs are inferior to subs, so I haven't done it yet.
@greengaybles I think "dubs are inferior to subs" is some snob bs anyway, both dubs and subs can be done well or poorly and there's a ton of creativity and artistry that go into dubbing these days. It occurs to me none of my recs is in English but at least the anime ones are likelier to be dubbed!
@ljwrites @greengaybles fwiw, while almost all the Ghibli movies have been re-dubbed since i first bought them (lets say early 2000’s) i haven’t heard much criticism of the new dubs—considering that you’ve gotta fight through the “but my childhood!” response already, that probably means they’re pretty solid?
