met gala explanation if you want
@twistylittlepassages the met gala is an annual fundraiser for the met’s Costume Institute—the publicity & close coverage of everyones outfits means that a high end fashion house can drop a couple hundred thousand on sending brand ambassadors (celebrities) as advertising
so like, its extremely Rich People Conspicuous Consumption Shit but also ad money gets spent on *far* worse things on a daily basis than funding a p cool museum so whatever
met gala explanation if you want
@twistylittlepassages yeah thats about my feelings as well—i’d rather put my attention as far as critiquing the clothing/beauty industry towards like, fast fashion or sweatshop labor or ads convincing women they need to wear concealer because no one can know you have skin! then an event which happens once a year and is benefitting from some of those systems ultimately pretty tangental to their existence
