I've been invited to try D&D virtually please hit me with all your beginner advice. I mean I've played numerous video games linked to the franchise and understand play mechanics and stuff in theory....how do I not make a fool out of myself? :flan_nooo:

@pamela if you’re planning on using a dice roller bot, definitely good to test it out a bit beforehand so you’re not flustered the first time a roll comes up in game (depending on what platform you’re playing on, there is likely to be a roller bot built in—you can ask the GM if they have a preference for what you use)

some assorted info i’d want beforehand:

  • are you getting a character from the GM, building characters as a group in a ‘session 0’ or supposed to show up with something already built?
  • what are the vibes of the setting?
  • what content boundaries does the group have, and how should you communicate your own? (eg. can people role to seduce? if so, how much detail should they go into for the resulting RP? how do you signal if the level of detail &/or the specific content is making you uncomfortable?)
  • how long is an average session? how many sessions is the campaign expected to take?
