Serious question: why do so many people on here set their display name to just be the same as their username? Like, we can already see that you’re @the_person@the.place, why are you repeating it?
@XanIndigo In my case, because the one time I changed my display name and avatar, it confused people badly, and I had to change it back a couple of days later even after a couple of announcements and clarifications.
@WanderingBeekeeper But you don’t do that though. I’m talking about all the people who have their entire @name@instance.social username as their display name.
@XanIndigo @WanderingBeekeeper it can be helpful with alt juggling i think? i still get pings to my (completely defunct for over a year) .shop account sometimes because people grabbed the wrong one off the selector and i imagine thats only heightened if both accounts are active
