@cassolotl cass my dear, I have seen something around and I am wondering if you are planning on adding it to the census:
Some afab nb people feeling that "transmasc" has been used as primarily a gender and/or that the "masc" part means that they must identify as masculine if its used.
It feels like a schism, as I asked some of the sort what they'd rather be called and they say "afab nb who have transitioned" which I would hate to have as a communal term for many reasons.
@Maz I see! What is the question? Does it seem like a "transmasc vs. AFAB NB who transitioned" situation to you currently? Do you think that only one of the two can be "correct"?
@cassolotl yes, and I don't think it's too much about correct or not as it's about vibes not accuracy. Like with queer vs lgbtqiap+ etc.
I think it's worse vibes to be defined by agab and separated from trans men, than to have people assume you're butch (I'm firmly neither truly butch nor femme)

@cassolotl I'll have to find one from recent but here's the other which says basically the same thing
@cassolotl @Maz sorry i may be missing something — which part of those screenshots says that they want to be referred to as afab nb? it sounds to me like one of the main issues they have with transmasc is that they feel like it implies being afab, and they’d rather just be nb / trans nb with no modifiers

This situation annoys me in the same way that the whole early 10s womyn thing went. (ignoring current usage) it just felt like compounded poor understanding of meaning.
@Satsuma @cassolotl that was another person who I was talking to recently, I'm on my phone and it was a week or so ago on tumblr, like ymmv on the afab nb bit though it did come up in a different part of that convo I think
