I have only just discovered that there is no point using #hashtags in #UnlistedPosts.

Hashtags are for making your posts discoverable. But unlisted posts are deliberately NOT discoverable. So a hashtag in an unlisted post is pointless whoops. :oh_no_bubble:

@admin Wait, maybe not completely pointless. If you follow an account, their unlisted posts show up on your Home timeline regardless, no? So theoretically if you searched for the tag, the unlisted posts of the peeps you follow would show up?

Follow

@Joker @admin as i understand it hashtags work by basically filtering the federated timeline, so whether you follow the person shouldn’t effect whether any particular post shows up

that said, this can actually be pretty handy in some circumstances — eg if you’re promoting the hashtag, you don’t want that post to *actually* show up in the tag! bc people who’ve searched it already know it exists, they’re looking for the actual moss photos. so setting to unlisted lets you create a link to the tag without clogging said tag your metaposting

@Satsuma @Joker ohhh that's an interesting use case! nice idea, thank you.
