So people used to ask for Gibraltars at our shop too, and whew that is a lot to unpack

Again, San Francisco coffee scene. There is some contention whether the first Gibraltar was served by Ritual or Blue Bottle, I never got a good answer on that one

Supposedly a barista wanted a coffee (weird! I know) and pulled a shot into a rocks glass and threw in some leftover milk from someone's latte

So if you want to make a 100% authentic version of this drink you need to use a nice shot but then add some whatever milk

Anyway I'm sure people thought it looked cool so they started asking for it, and someone noticed that the rocks glass was made by Libbey and the box was labeled Gibraltar

These are identical to the glasses you get when you order scotch on the rocks in a bar in the usa

So but to make this drink you need those glasses, and we didn't have them at our shop, kind of on purpose

At the end of the day we made hundreds of cortados, and people liked those just fine

@pagrus i’m a big fan of cortados but one time i saw a coffee shop had them on the menu, ordered one, and was served an espresso over a small scoop of ice cream

Follow

@pagrus also i feel like ice cream is an ineffective drowning medium

@Satsuma I think the ice cream is the drownee, and the espresso is the drowner
