@fogsrollingin yeah I’M in favor of allowing kids in fandom spaces bc 1) they’ll join whether you want them to or not (I certainly did) and ‘i cant report this person harassing me or i’ll get banned for being a kid’ is a terrible dynamic
2) seeing people have normal and healthy conversations about sexuality was SO helpful for me as a tiny baby queer and I want that for the next generation
That said, sometimes I read peoples bios and Im just like yeah ok please go be a child elsewhere
@fogsrollingin i feel like the cows are too far out of the barn at this point tho you know? Like I’m definitely not saying ‘we should make all spaces kid friendly’ but we do need to learn to coexist with the fact that there are lots of kids in fandom & their has been since like, the hp era at this point
When I recommend an explicit wincest fic (& I recommend many! lol), I don't want to know that I just potentially sent it to a follower who I know is 13 years old
And I don't want that 13 yo to know that I *knew* my toot might reach them & I sent it out anyway.
Coexisting in the best way with minors in fandom (especially with the dark or sexual stuff) is supporting their ability to lurk/hide until they're of age imo
@Satsuma I'm less in favor of explicitly allowing kids in fandom spaces (because then we'd kinda have to acknowledge them-?)... and much more in favor of protecting anonymity & lurkers in fandom spaces
Like... lurking minors (like you and I were!) reading the dark & kinky, and normal & healthy, explicit stuff that adults exchange between each other... I think that's all its own education. Even maybe a rite of passage imo.
