Awkward COVID conversations

So we’re at my in-laws house. SIL met an old roommate. MIL, an extrovert, very excited when she hears this and immediately calls to invite friend and family over.

My husband and I are giving each other concerned looks and go into a huddle. I decide there’s no good way to do this so I, with my husband backing me, say “Sooo are these people vaccinated and are we wearing masks while they’re hear.” My husband adds, “Because we’re leaving if they’re not vaccinated.”

A moment of stunned silence then MIL says “I assume she’s vaccinated, her husband’s a doctor, but I’ll verify.”

Now waiting to hear back. I don’t like them over even if they’re vaccinated but I guess that’s a compromise I’m making.

This trip seemed relatively low risk when we first planned it but now I feel less comfortable about it. (Not just this, more the number of little things adding up.)

@kiesa yeah thats a lesson i keep learning — it’s easy to estimate risk assuming that you’re controlling all the variables but then there are always unanticipated events
