the problem with screenshot sharing culture is that screenshots do not respect my desktop environment’s light/dark settings.

@djsundog I've often wondered about some sort of image format that could do both, combined with an automatic way to take both as a screenshot, mostly for use in documentation. Probably wouldn't be *too* hard to rig up a browser to do it with web-based stuff (and arguably that's better because you can more easily regenerate them when things change), but even so.

@aschmitz @djsundog svg can probably do this natively with modern CSS

@Lady @djsundog Arguably, yeah. (So can just modern CSS if you're building an HTML page.) But the big trick for me is making it easy to take those screenshots.

@aschmitz @djsundog well if your UI rendering engine is just Postscript then you just need a Postscript to SVG path converter…

@aschmitz @Lady I do wonder if there’s some clever combination of css filter and sampling functionality that couldn’t detect particular scenarios and apply some partial inverse filtering where applicable to make the output fit the visual context clues somehow, but I’m not up on enough of modern css to know if it’s feasible or not and haven’t been nerdsniped by the idea enough to go dig through docs yet haha

@djsundog @Lady In some ways you might expect this wouldn't work all too great as soon as you hit anything with colors, but my understanding is that some mail clients do it automatically and they do an okay job? They do usually have the benefit of having the markup, though some sort of minimal feature detection might do okay. Though in that case you'd probably get uncanny screenshots that often don't actually match the app's colors.
