I honestly do think it's weird and kind of disappointing that the first mainline game where Zelda gets her own adventure is one where she can't even fight
I think I see what they were TRYING to do, emphasize her as the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom (as much as the Triforce matters in Zelda anymore) by showing her problem solving abilities and that works extremely well for the actual puzzles of the game
But it's 2024 and we still won't let the princess actually fight and save herself, she has to hide behind monsters to fight for her
Even Peach gets treated better than Zelda by Nintendo
@coriander dunno if it helps or hurts their cause that they were originally going to have the protagonist be Link, and only switched to Zelda after they were like “well if you can just use your sword, what’s the point?”
@coriander on the one hand: they didn’t take away zelda’s sword; they had already made the decision to take away the sword before they settled on Zelda
on the other hand: okay but when does Zelda get a sword tho
(Zelda has a sword in Twilight Princess, Hyrule Warriors, and Phantom Hourglass (kinda))
[technically Tetra also has a sword but i don’t think she ever uses it]
@coriander i’m kind of eh on the whole “knights get swords, princesses get bows” trope but that’s probably because i read too much zelda fanfic
i want a Zelda who uses a rapier and knows how to fence
@Lady That would be much cooler for sure
