I'm finding that my writing style has changed since the last time I seriously tried writing fiction and I'm not sure what to make of that

It still feels right, it still feels like me, but this isn't how I wrote ten years ago

That's good, I suppose; I probably shouldn't be writing like I did when I was in my late teens and early 20s

But it's strange because I wasn't doing really any writing in between so this change happened without my realizing it

@coriander my experience is that consuming and thinking about art does more for your art style than actually making art does, unless the thing holding your art style back is “not being good at making art”

@coriander there’s definitely a DEGREE in which you need to practice art to make art, but once you have like, a functional set of skills down, practice will only make you faster at art and not better

what will make you better is UNDERSTANDING art, which you can only get from Other People

@Lady Yeah I'm reminded of Stephen King saying the best way to be a better writer is to read all the time
