remember when Jon Stewart did the Rally to Restore Sanity and it did nothing? because liberalism accomplishes nothing? it got some publicity and that's it. I think there's a lot of protests that are similarly vague and aimless and hence accomplish nothing

@vultureculture A lot of people forget that protests and rallies are meant to be a preamble, not the main thesis

@coriander @vultureculture there was a piece ironically in the new york times about this a while back, by an old professor who was tired of this happening
basically their thesis was that prior to like the 90s, the only way you could get a lot of people in one place was by being really good at organizing
now you can do it without any organization at all. it's no longer threatening

@Lady @vultureculture Yeah that makes a lot of sense, you can just post something on Facebook now and 50/50 you'll draw a crowd
