pokemon sv, don't read this if you haven't faced a gym leader and do want to be surprised

Without having seen the anime or faced a gym leader since Red: the gym leader battle music in Scarlet/Violet is pretty great. Each leader I've faced so far is a two-face fight: phase one is two intro pokemon of the gym leader's type, and then phase 2 is a powered-up pokemon of a different type but with the gym leader's type as a power-up. If you know the leader's type, phase 1 is easy to beat, but without knowing the specific pokemon in phase 2 it's hard to prepare for, so it's a good challenge as a trainer.

So of course, in JRPG tradition, phases 1 and 2 have different music. Phase 1 is jazzy electro-funk, which is great, but in phase 2 it goes more orchestral and the crowd gets into cheering you on, which makes it feel especially great when you figure out how to overcome the boss pokemon. (This is why I didn't want anyone to get spoiled on this; hearing the crowd start singing along out of nowhere for the first time is amazing.) It starts around 2:30 in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=aWS1zAswv_

@noelle yeah they introduced this originally in SwSh for the Dynamax segment (when the pokémon get Lorge the crowd starts chanting and it becomes an epic faceoff) but i think they did an even better job of it in Scarlet/Violet honestly (well, the Terra bit isn't quite as epic but the music transition is better)
