actual list of considerations i make before deciding whether to CW a thing

1. is this post identity-productive? do i feel it is important that people see this post to understand me?

if a post is identity-productive, for example “i’m a dyke”, i’m not going to CW it. if my identity is “too much” for you, we probably shouldn't be sharing a social space

2. if my timeline was full of posts like this, would i feel heartened or fatigued?

i don't CW critical marxist analyses of explicit sex scenes in fanfiction because if my entire timeline were full of critical marxist analyses of explicit sex scenes in fanfiction i would be fucking jazzed. on the other hand i will absolutely be CWing posts about the upcoming election

3. is the ambiguity of the CW worse than the actual content?

i will never CW a post (including this one) “sui” because if i see someone CW a post “sui” my immediate reaction, before opening the post, is way worse than what the post, in this and many cases, actually contains

4. is the CW just the post?

look there's no point in CWing the post “gonna go masturbate in the shower” with “masturbation”; that's just the post. just make the post.

5. am i talking out my ass?

always CW this; don't make people read your ill-informed bullshit if they don't want to

6. is the post a reply that someone might want to wait to read? is the post a reply that wasn't solicited?

CW both of these. you should hardly ever make an unsolicited reply to someone that isn't CWed with context for who you are and why you are making the reply
