Cohost community guidelines post 1, from yesterday: cohost.org/staff/post/124903-c

Post 2, from today: cohost.org/jkap/post/125831-em

Either there's some backpedaling going on here or they REALLY need to bring on someone who knows how to do public communication. If it's true that it was ALWAYS the site's policy to disallow even non-realistic child porn, then why would they expect someone who didn't know or respect that policy to know or respect that CWs on child porn were mandatory so it could be sequestered away from everyone else? (And why would they list those mandatory CWs as though they expected people to be posting those things?)

Regardless, saying "we haven't come to a firm decision about non-realistic child porn, we're open to input, here's what you have to do if you post it" on day 1 and then "actually, all child porn was always banned" on day 2 just isn't a fantastic way to make your community feel like you have a commitment to communicating well with them.

@noelle i think that they both don't have anyone to do PR and frankly could not afford someone with the requisite skillset and experience lol

i think they have a bunch of nebulous thoughts in their head about what they want their site to look like, which probably includes some variation of “no child porn”, but have absolutely no clue how to translate into policy and are kind of bumbling along on a basis of “rough consensus between members”

it's a lot easier to agree on “we're still working on this and if it were allowed these would be the tags” than “here are our hard policy guidelines about what we consider acceptable” so that's what they went with first
