policies like the “Fediverse Friendly Moderation Covenant” is how jerks on shitty instances get ahold of posts in hashtags to spam; posts don’t just federate on the wind, somebody had to actually send that post to that server yk

if your ideology is that it is your moral responsibility to send people’s posts to servers where there are people who will harass them, maybe rethink that one for a sec

you may have those people blocked or silenced but does the originating server? or are you just creating more work for a moderator somewhere else along the line

i don’t federate with benign shitposter types because i don’t federate with anyone i wouldn’t be willing to make smalltalk with at a community picnic, but even when you do think an admin is tolerable, you have to consider the weight of every user on their instance against every post you ever send them, whether originating from your server or not

maybe you are fine with doing their moderation job for them, but i’m not fine with you making *me* do their moderation job for them also

glitch.cat.family moderation work is extremely light not because i am super on top of things, but because we post relatively few things to the public timeline (i’m the worst offender) and because i will block any large instance that i’m concerned might federate those statuses to parts of the fediverse that i don’t want to touch

even so, they still get there sometimes, and i can tell because when i go to block an instance i can see whether the instance actor has touched base with us before or not

who is sending our posts to these people? why? do you actually think that is helping anyone?
