Thinking about how in high school anything other than going to college was never even mentioned

Nobody told us we didn't have to go

Now, personally, I don't regret my time in college, it was pivotal in my becoming who I am today, but there's no way at least one person I graduated with didn't basically ruin their life by going to college

Anyway I would never presume to tell anyone how to live their life, but I think there are definitely people on here who should have been told they could learn a trade and make money and be happy instead of being told they should go to college and learn computers

@witchfynder_finder i think the absolute last thing anyone should do is go to college and learn computers and this isn’t even a controversial opinion among people who do computers

@witchfynder_finder computers are much much more a trade skill than college makes them out to be, and unlike Actual Engineering, they do not have classes at university which teach you the practical or ethical skills you will need so really your only option is to learn them in the field

as someone who computers, do i love this situation? no, i would rather colleges implement practical classes akin to physical engineering’s “how not to kill people when building a bridge” kind of coursework. but these classes are not what $$$ employers want, so it will take a significant number of bridges failing before that happens

@witchfynder_finder meanwhile if you want to computers your best option is to find people who build bridges which don’t fail and work for them
