If person A sends a private message to person B on a different instance. Is there anything preventing admin C of an instance that federates with person A's instance from being able to see the contents of the message?

I assume the admin of B's instance could that's pretty given.

@imani post never gets sent to C’s instance; posts only get pushed to instances which have recipients (give or take; replies to public posts might get forwarded along to OP’s followers as well)

usually “recipients” includes “all my followers” but that isn't the case with DMs
