Question about Drawing / Art :boost_ok:
@lapis @noelle the one thing i see again and again re: drawing is the idea that your drawing should be recognizable whether you’ve been working on it two minutes or two hours. drawing from life is useful if you “have the eye of an artist” and “know how to draw”: if you can look at something, discern its fundamental shapes, and make a quick sketch which captures its “motion”. but it’s easy to get embroiled in details and photorealism and miss out on those fundamental skills.
i think one thing which can help with making art is learning how to “read” art critically: how to look at someone else’s artwork and understand the decisions and approaches they made as an artist. this won’t make you instantly good at those things, but if you can better understand what other people are doing, then you will have an idea of what you yourself need to study.
