There's a small thing that JK Rowling does in her prose that has always bothered me even when I was a fan of her work and it's that some new and stupid part of the wizard world will get introduced, like some plant or a creature or something, and then throughout the entire book there will be these really awkward and forced turns of phrase that make reference to the new thing in the book, even if the thing itself has literally 0 impact on the story or anything.

And then this shit doesn't even carry over between books, she just starts all over again in the next one. It's so awkward and forced and I never liked it.

Like, yeah, she's also a horrible person and shit, but THIS is what has really bugged me about those books for a long time

In....I think book 5 there's a bad scene on the train where Harry gets covered in goo from some stupid plant right when [GIRL WITH RACIALLY INSENSITIVE NAME] walks in and it's stupid high school drama whatever

And then like 200 pages later there's a line about someone making a face like they had just swallowed some of the stupid plant goo or something similar and like

Why? Why did you do that, Jo? Why'd you write that passage so poorly?
