@witchfynder_finder regarding the book, i think its inspirations are drawn a little earlier, so like how the Romans were fucking up the East
@witchfynder_finder the west has been fucking things up in the middle east for a very long time
@witchfynder_finder anyway that's something i absolutely would hope and expect a film adaptation to modernize, especially considering where film is at right now, so if you got those vibes that's probably a good thing
@Lady Yeah it seems like the film may have changed the framing of some things to make it more anticolonial but it still feels like the framework was already there to make that commentary
@witchfynder_finder i think it's one of those books where like, the scenario holds a lot of truth, so directors have a lot of freedom to then go and take that scenario and say “this is good” or “this is bad” with it
