If there's one problem I have with They Live, and other people have brought it up as well, it's that the particular metaphor Carpenter chose for capitalism can pretty easily also be applied to anti-Semitic conspiracy theories
That is very obviously NOT what Carpenter was going for with the piece, but it wouldn't be hard for bad-faith actors to make the argument anyway

@witchfynder_finder i mean anti-Semitic conspiracy theories were formed in direct response to communist/socialist thought so i’m pretty sure this was by design on the part of the fascists
